THE FORGE
BOOK CLUB

WHAT IS THE FORGE?

Reading great books tells us more than stories, histories and theories. They tell us who we are.

The Forge Book Club is designed for people who want to go deep into and discuss literature - those who want to expose themselves to the full breadth of "the great conversation."

The west has a rich literary history, The Forge is here to dig it up.

The Forge covers everything from classic authors such as Orwell, Dostoyevski and Aristotle, to the great authors of today.

No genre is off limits, no author is too provocative and no history is too harsh for the intellectually curious member of The Forge.

Do you have a book that you would like to share? Feel free to recommend it and we will add it to our list.

While the potential for sudden lockdowns still looms over the country, we are working hard to create an online community experience for the avid reader, the new reader, or the reader who is just sick of zoom meetings.

There will be live discussions, ongoing discussion threads, reviews, recommendations, resources, but most importantly, community.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

ABOUT THE PLATFORM

WHAT DO I GET?

As soon as you join The Forge and create an account, you will have immediate access to the community platform. The spaces within the community that you have access to will depend on the membership level you choose.

We read one book each month, on which you can find information and where to buy within the Bookshelf space inside the community.

Throughout the month, discussion on the book takes place in the General Discussion space, before we all jump on a Zoom call to wrap up the book of the month with a live discussion.

The platform chosen to host The Forge is a smart new community space called Circle. Circle will allow us to create spaces for different purposes and membership access.

The Forge Platform, using Circle, is clean intuitive and easy to use and navigate.

"With all thy      getting, get     understanding"

After you have signed up and chosen your payment plan, you will have instant access to:

  • The members platform

  • The 'book shelf' where you can buy each book of the month

  • Discussion meetings

  • Badges and rewards

  • Prizes and competitions

COMING SOON: A Platinum membership tier is in the pipeline which will include book of the month delivery at an additional cost.

We are also exploring the option of hosting live webinars with guest speakers to discuss their favourite books as well as why literature is so important.

1984
George Orwell

Hidden away in the Record Department of the sprawling Ministry of Truth, Winston Smith skilfully rewrites the past to suit the needs of the Party. Yet he inwardly rebels against the totalitarian world he lives in, which demands absolute obedience and controls him through the all-seeing telescreens and the watchful eye of Big Brother, symbolic head of the Party

The brothers karamazov
Fyodor Dostoyevsky

When brutal landowner Fyodor Karamazov is murdered, the lives of his sons are changed irrevocably- Mitya, the sensualist, whose bitter rivalry with his father immediately places him under suspicion for parricide; Ivan, the intellectual, whose mental tortures drive him to breakdown; the spiritual Alyosha, who tries to heal the family's rifts; and the shadowy figure of their bastard half-brother Smerdyakov.

the plague
Albert camus

The townspeople of Oran are in the grip of a deadly plague, which condemns its victims to a horrifying death. Fear, isolation and claustrophobia follow as they are forced into quarantine, each responding in their own way to the lethal bacillus- some resign themselves to fate, some seek blame and a few, like Dr Rieux, resist the terror.
